10  |  Dracula X... a true classic

I've been a PC Engine fan for over a decade now. I've played a LOT of the PCE catalog and own quite a few of the titles. None of them, in my opinion, matches up to Dracula X. Very few games for any platform match up to Dracula X, for that matter, even if you compare them without considering chronological context.

The graphics are simply superb. The PC Engine really shows off its color abilities here and the game definitely features many things you'd never see in the US. How many games here allow you to kill demons with wooden crosses? Fun stuff! The visuals in the church scenes are stunning and vivid.

The music brilliantly captures the mood of the game and is good enough that even the Dracula X soundtrack is a sought after collector's item. That fact itself should be all you need to know.

The one potential drawback to this game, for an American, is that it is in Japanese. This is no way detracts from the enjoyment of the game and knowledge of Japanese isn't necessary. Besides, translations of every piece of the text of the game can be found easily. The game is that good. There's a reason it fetches such a high price among collectors...
