You'll need to startup with either Mario 64 or GoldenEye in the cart slot in order to load the GameShark using the default keycode, and be able to fix your problem. If you don't have those games, it's possible some other older carts will work, but I've only tested those two.

You have to make sure all the codes are perficly put in. if even 1 code  has even the slightest eror, it won't work. Also you have to make sure the codes are from a reliable sorce, some lozers post fake codes just to throw off players.

Your chosing the wrong version of the game under select cheat codes. There are 3 diferent versions of the game. V1.0 V1.1 and V1.2.

The simplest way to determine what version you have is to look at the cart. On
the front sticker, at the bottom, in the center, is a two lined code. The
bottom line of this code differs between V1.0, V1.1 and V1.2. Here's what the
code is for each version.
V1.0: NUS-CZGE-USA

V1.1: NUS-CZLE-USA

V1.2: NUS-CZLE-USA (01)

If you have a gold cart, and it's an NTSC one, then it is DEFINITELY V1.0. If
you have a PAL Australian one, despite it being gold, it is the same as V1.2,
and is NOT V1.0.

well i have v.3.3 and when i set the keycode to diddy it worked with ssb. you probably just need to clean it. if that doesnt work put in mario 64 or golden eye. if that doesnt work get a new gameshark off of ebay.

If you wanna use a game like Banjo Kazooie, click on "key codes" and scroll to ????,????, banjo,????. click on it, and a warning will appear saying, "do you have this game?" if so, click yes. then, turn off the N64 and insert the game. (in this case, Banjo-kazooie) It should work.  Hope this helps.  :)

I have a few suggestions. First, is it new or used? Used GS can be risky. Next, make sure it's plugged in all the way. Next, make sure your GS is CLEAN!!! Next, make sure you put in the GS then either GOLDENEYE 007 or SUPER MARIO 64. Then select keycodes for different games. Example: If you wanna play Zeld Ocarina of Time select the keycode "ZELDA" I THINK!? If all else fails, buy the latest version of GS (V3.3) OR buy a new N64. Hope this helped!

do not use tissue or q-tips try a foam paintbrush or pipe cleaner.

be sure to get any loose bits out of the cartridge after its been cleaned

this also works for all n64 games.

im pretty sure that that key code is a fake because i got a similar one off line and it was for majora's mask, but i have version 3.2 and it didn't work. also i think, if it is a game, is probably for another version. but im not sure which one. my code i got the last 2 digits of the key code were 00 not 1B. so either mine or yours is fake.

Then, go to the option of keycodes on the menu, get there by pressing L+R at the first screen. Use the anolog stick to look through the keycodes and set that game. Then, insert the game and go to enter codes. Some will be on there, but go online to get others. Hit new code and enter it. Then hit exit and save, then play game

just use any zelda game or try other games that you can think of ps gamesharks are horrrrrible yes that bad oh and try not to erase any gameshark codes because if it freezes when you do you are in trouble yes i own three gamesharks and i am very expeirenced and know pretty much all down falls for N64 gs

A setup cartridge is any normal n64 game that can work without special assistance from a keycode.

Keycodes let certain games work with the gameshark that otherwise wouldn't.

Examples of "setup cartridge" games are:

-GoldenEye

-Mario 64

-probably others but those are the only two I know of

hold down the l and r buttons at the same time then press down on the d pad until it shows diddy kong racing press a then turn off your n64 wait a moment put banjo kazooie in the gameshark then turn it on it should work.

you have to restart the game or turn off then on because when it freezes it freezes.or maybe if you wait long enough,it will start working again.

I had the same problem yesterday. After reading this page it seems that you need to use the zelda keycode. Just use the gameshark with a game that it works with like mario 64 and go to the keycode section and choose zelda. I haven't tried this out myself so be careful.

you will need a keycode om what i have heard, either than that the other problem might be that your version of gameshark may not be new enough, if it is 2.2 or lower it probably wont work either way. to check the version of your gameshark look at the back and it should have a sticker saying: V ... hope this helps :)

you have to use a keycode i have 2.0 too and you have to hold l +r and a thing called keycodes appear you scroll down pick the zelda one or if it doesnt have it try to find the keycode if works turn off n64 and put the zelda game in the gs and turn on presto!!!!!! now put on cheats and play hope it helped!!!!

 If you plug in SM64 or Goldeneye into the Gameshark it will reset itself to the default keycode if the keycode is set to a game you don't own. I tried this and it still didn't work, so try at your own risk.
