8  |  Trick shot!

Side pocket is a classic arcade game of pool. However, for this home version, the stripping bunny girls that kept the cabinet full of 10p coins have been replaced with a lady who writes notes to you!!! Anyway, this is a unique take on pool where you compete against yourself. You have a limited number of shots to clear the table. It comes in both 8 ball and nine ball varieties. You'll have to conquer both of these games several times in order to become world champion. The table itself has been scaled to fit the screen, unlike similar games, so you can always see what you are doing. Lining up and potting shots is a joy - and worryingly addictive too. The game has some nice touches, sometimes a certain pocket will have a flashing star in it, pot a ball in this one and you get a bonus, sweet! These bonuses range form extra chances to trick shots for completing a table. After clearing up you also get challenged to pot a ball into a named pocket for an extra chance, its these little thoughts form the developers that make the game all the more enjoyable. All in all side pocket is great fun, if a bit dated (its from 1987 so what do you expect) I'd say it is more fun than other 8-bit pool games too. It has that quality that keeps you coming back for more!
