To unlock Alfred, you must get to the eighth stage without continuing, and then finish your opponent with the S. Power five times. Once this has been done, Alfred will appear looking for a fight. Beat Alfred, and he turns into a playable character.
After aquiring Alfred, start a game in two-player mode. Move to select Alfred, but hold your B button for two seconds once your cursor is over him.
