RockStar Announces Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the PSP

Although Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars saw disappointing sales figures on the DS, today Rockstar has announced that the game will be released for the Sony PlayStation Portable.  The game was critically acclaimed, but that did not translate to sales on the system.

This game's launch will co-incide with the release of the PSP Go! and will be available on both disc and as a digital download.  No price or specific release date was announced as of press time.  There was also no word on whether or not "taxi-whistling" would be in the game (this had been supported by the DS microphone).  There's also no word on whether or not the soundtrack will be improved to accomodate the more robust PSP sound system.

In Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, you are Huang Lee.  As the son of a gangster that was murdered, you've come back to town to pick up where your dad left off.  Upon landing in your plane, your guards are murdered and you're shot in the head.  Thinking that you're dead, the gangsters that shot you dump you in the water.  From there, you inform your buddies that it's time for some action.  You're  quickly thrown into a turf war that has you dealing drugs, stealing cars, and killing lots and lots of people.

The viewpoint in Chinatown Wars is different from previous GTA games.  It's more 2D, using the classic "Madden-cam" to present the action.  This viewpoint will be replicated in the PSP version of the game.
