Major Xbox 360 Announcements

Microsoft released a press release today that put add a lot of new colors to their canvas. They say that 2010 will be the "biggest year in Xbox 360 gaming history". This is a PR announcement, so it's filled with a bunch of self-promoting language (read: masturbation), thus I'll summarize. Here's what you need to know:

  • Halo: Reach (Bungie) public multiplayer beta will be released on May 3. Access to the beta will be available through the Halo 3: ODST game disc on Xbox LIVE. I can't wait to see how this will be done.
  • Alan Wake (Remedy Entertainment Ltd.) will be launching on May 18 in North America and May 21 in Europe. A limited collector's edition will be available for pre-order.
  • Crackdown 2 (Ruffian Games) is officially coming out "later this year". A bonus to those who pre-order it: you receive a code to download 4 exclusive colored suits in the game. Anything to make a buck, eh?
  • Dead Rising 2 (Capcom) comes out on August 31 in North America, September 2 in Japan, and September 3 in Europe. Also, available "shortly before the title is released in August", Dead Rising 2: CASE ZERO will be released as an exclusive Xbox LIVE game Add-on. No price indicated.
  • COD: Modern Warfare 2 add-on pack is the first DLC for the game, to be available this spring.
  • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction (Ubisoft) comes to X360 on April 13 in North America, April 16 in the UK, and April 28 in Japan.
  • Final Fantasy 13 (Square Enix) Xbox 360 bundle will be available on March 9, and is slated to include a 250GB HD, 2 wireless controllers, exclusive DLC, and the game.
  • Lost Planet 2 (Capcom) will be coming on May 18.
  • Left 4 Dead 2: The Passing (Valve) is the first DLC for the FPS horror/thriller/multisurvivor game. There is no mention as to when it will actually be available.
  • Toy Soldiers (Signal Studios) is a new XBL game to be available on February 12.
  • Game Room (Krome Studios Pty Ltd.) launches in March as a part of the XBL Arcade Block Party.
  • Scrap Metal (Slick Entertainment) also comes out in March as a part of the XBL Block Party.
  • Perfect Dark (4J Studios) will be released in March on XBL. If you haven't read about this, you better drop what you're doing and Google search "perfect dark XBL" and get ready to play.

It seems like Microsoft is listening to its customers by trying to release many of its games outside of the November/December window. Let's hope that this continues.

My most anticipated game is Perfect Dark. What are you looking forward to?
