Crack open those piggybanks because Activision-Blizzard's long-awaited StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty launches on July 27th!
With an emphasized global release, Activision-Blizzard is setting the stage for what could be one of the biggest launch dates in game industry history. The StarCraft II beta has already been underway for several months and Blizzard's positive feedback about the tester's progress has resulted in a release date much sooner than many had anticipated.
StartCraft II: Wings of Liberty will ship in two editions. The standard box will arrive at retail worldwide for $59.99. Activision-Blizzard enthusiasts can get their hands on the Collector's Edition box for an estimated $99.99. This space treasure contains the official soundtrack, a behind-the-scenes DVD, full color artbook, and a copy of the original StarCraft as well as the Brood War expansion pack.
Activision-Blizzard's targeting of a mid-summer release comes as somewhat of a surprise considering many big-name titles target preholiday in order to benefit from increased marketing and sales. However, making StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty available on July 27th means that Activision-Blizzard won't be anticipating much competition in the market. Then again, what competition really IS there for the sequel to one of the most popular sci-fi war strategy games of all time?
