PlayStation 3
Hulu is coming to the PlayStation 3, if you're willing to pay $10 a month. Today, Hulu announced that they'd be rolling out a new subscription-based service called Hulu Plus. Hulu Plus will allow you to stream Hulu content to many new devices, like the iPhone, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Sony Bravia TVs, Samsung Internet TVs, the iPad, Blu-ray players, and more. The service will also allow viewers to select from an entire season of programming content, rather than the last 3 episodes. Unfortunately, advertisements are also included in this model - you can't pay to get rid of the ads.
Today is the first day that iPad and iPhone users get access to Hulu Plus. On consoles, the PlayStation 3 gets the service first, starting in July. In 2011, the Xbox 360 will join the Hulu family.
Hulu CEO Jason Kilar said the following in an official statement: "Hulu Plus is not a replacement for Hulu.com. Hulu Plus is a subscription product that is incremental and complementary to the existing Hulu service. For almost all of the current broadcast shows on our service, Hulu Plus offers the full season. Subscribers also have access to back seasons or full runs of some of TV's greatest shows."
"Hulu Plus subscribers can now watch their favorites through more than just the browser on their Mac or PC. Viewers who own select Samsung Internet-connected TVs and Blu-ray players can download a Hulu Plus application from the Samsung app store and start streaming directly."
Although Xbox 360 isn't getting the service until 2011, Microsoft representatives said "We're incredibly excited to bring Hulu Plus and its amazing library of entertainment to Xbox Live. Hulu Plus joins our ever-expanding entertainment offerings on Xbox 360, which currently includes Netflix, Last.fm and Zune Video."
