The best deal on Xbox 360 systems right now is either the current (discontinued) Arcade system at $150 (some stores like Target are offering gift certificates with purchase as well!), or the Xbox 360 Pro system, which is currently being sold for $250 or less.
We played the console several times, from Halo: Reach to Crackdown 2. We were generally pleased by both the appearance and noise level.
The Xbox 360 redesign was announced just a few days ago at Microsoft's E3 2010 Press Conference. The new console ships with Wi-Fi included, and has a 250gb hard drive. The eject button and power button for the console are touch sensitive pads, rather than full buttons, and has an angular black glossy finish. The console comes with a connector for the Kinect device, as well. The Kinect adapter in the system isn't for compatibility - it's for convienience. You don't have to plug Kinect into the wall if you have a new Xbox 360 Slim.
News of the new Xbox 360 broke far earlier than Microsoft had anticipated, because an adserver in Europe had been pre-poplulated with ads for a new Xbox console.
