Microsoft Confirms Halo: CE is $39.99, Multiplayer Detailed

Microsoft announced that Halo: CE (Halo: Combat Evolved is now called Halo Anniversary) is a retail product, at a discount price.  The game will hit store shelves this Fall for $39.99.

Halo CE Anniversary has been shown at the Microsoft E3 2011 press conference.  Of course, you can play Halo with Co-op over Xbox Live, and there will be at least 7 multiplayer maps available upon release of the game.  Halo will launch November 15.  Earlier this week, Frank O'Connor from 343 Industrie said there will be a total of six multiplayer maps from Halo: Combat Evolved and one Halo 2 map included with Halo: CE.  The Halo: CE multiplayer maps will be played In the Halo: Reach's online multiplayer!  In other words, Halo: CE Anniversary will not have it's own multiplayer mode, except through co-op. The rest of the multiplayer experience will be a reskinned version of Reach.  Frank O'Connor had earlier confirmed that Halo CE will be a low-priced budget game, not a full $60 release, but did not comment on exact price, which was released today ($39.99).

what a gip
so 343 expects us to pay 40 bucks for a game i already beat and is just a novelty. i can get halo ce on games on demand for that price already i know there are some advances in this version so does that mean that everyone who got it on games on demand got ripped off for an inferior product i still have my copy on disc and can play it anytime i want i'm sure it will be fun for about a week or so then back to reach or 3 i love halo but feel like i'm just being fleeced here maybe 25 sounds a little more reasonable

Screw this
I was totally ready to buy a 360 and pay for Xbox Live just so I could play Halo:CE's multiplayer online. Then, I learn that the multiplayer in the remake is just a map pack for Reach.

You lost a sale today, 343 and Microsoft. I hope you know that.

I "already" beat Halo CE around a decade ago - I'm willing to spend half a night's drinking money to do it again co-op with improved graphics. Probably while drinking.

I guess my point here is that I like drinking.

That the second poster was "totally ready" to front $300 + $60 + $40 to play Halo:CE but not try to find a second-hand copy of Reach for an extra $20 is bizarre. Besides which, are we really sure that a copy of Reach is necessary for the CE maps?
