As a part of Microsoft's push with Windows 8, today Microsoft announced the availability of Xbox Music, a streaming music service which will make its debut on the Xbox 360 console, but also find its way onto all Windows 8 devices on October 26th. Xbox Music will be made available on the Xbox 360 tomorrow, as a part of a larger system update.
Like Pandora, there will be two tiers of service with Xbox Music - a free, ad supported version, and an ad free version which is based around a subscription. There will be 18 million songs available upon release, and users can purchase music for a dollar a song as well.
Where Xbox Music differs from Pandora is its price. While Pandora One usually sells for $39 / year, Xbox Music is $10 a month, or a whopping $100 a year - likewise, while the feature will be available on Windows devices, Pandora and other competitors are available across all system / OS types, like Android and iOS. Only time will tell if this strategy is successful, but the price point is certainly premium.
