Earlier today, the team at PlayJam launched a new Kickstarter campaign for what they call the world's most portable TV Games Console. With a target market price of just $79 GameStick hopes to change the face of living room gaming. Jasper Smith, CEO of PlayJam had the following to say:
“We wanted to create a games console that helped further our overriding mission to bring affordable gaming to the big screen”. Says Jasper Smith, CEO PlayJam. “Not only that, we wanted to push the boundaries of what has been achieved up to now by packing sufficient power into the most portable of devices, enabling users to carry that experience with them wherever they go.”
The console, once produced, would connect directly into your television's HDMI port. Also, when you decide to take your games on the road, simply detach the device and connect to the Bluetooth controller. In addition to the HDMI support the console will be compatible with other Bluetooth devices to enhance the multiplayer experience.
With over 4 trillion TVs in the world there is a huge market for bringing games to the big screen—especially with less than 1% of those sets being used to play games. The system is currently in Beta with a small team testing the handhelds hardware and existing game selection. Similar to it's competitors, the system will feature a game store to power digital downloads, upgrade and other digital content.
“We are currently in a closed Beta phase of development with a working prototype that our guys are using to test some great games. Next comes the final design stage and live testing of both the controller and the games...”
– Jasper Smith, CEO PlayJam
The Kickstarter campaign, like other, will last for 30 days. The goal of $100,000 is crucial in making the system a reality with pledges as little as $10 being accepted. You can visit the Kickstarter page here.
