Important Announcements - BIG Prize!

What follows could be the most important series of announcements Fatman Games has seen thus far.  If you haven't told your friends about Fatman Games yet, you'll want to.  If you haven't participated yet, you'll want to.

ANNOUNCEMENT 1:

The next prize is a Game Boy Advance SP.

That's right.  I want to see the site grow.  I want to see compelling, new, noteworthy content.  I want controversy.  I want funny.  I want ultra-new.  I want this site to be a complete reference as soon as possible.  So, this is the big prize.  I am hoping for people to REALLY come out strong for this one.

In case you're not aware, the Game Boy Advance SP is Nintendo's latest portable gaming system.  It was released in March 2003 with a MSRP of $99.  It features a back lit screen, a clam-shell fold up design, and weighs in at a mere 5 ounces.  In addition to playing all of your favorite Game Boy and Game Boy Color classics, the Game Boy Advance SP also plays the newest Game Boy Advance games.  These games recall the days of the SNES, with such familiar titles as CastleVania, Mega Man, Zelda, and Metroid.

It's simple to win the Game Boy Advance SP.  Sign up for a Fatman Games account, and begin posting reviews, news, FAQs, pictures, and participate in the forums.  There is an ADDITIONAL TWIST to this contest.  If you promote the site, and let me know WHERE you're promoting the site, you get bonus points.  If your promotion makes the top 10 referrer list, you'll get double the bonus points.  If you pay for the promotion, in the form of an ad or what have you, you get double the bonus points.  Want to know how you're doing throughout the month?   Remember, these contests are geared toward new users.  You're not shooting for the TOP of the list (although that'd be great!), you're shooting to make progress up the ladder.

ANNOUNCEMENT 2:

In related news, DaFuZzMaStA has won again!  His Dreamcast will ship out shortly.  He has crawled the site in search of almost every possible update, and posted it...  All month, he's said how much he's wanted that Dreamcast, and he sure has fought for it.

What will you do to get your hands on the GBA-SP?

ANNOUNCEMENT 3:

Zelda Walk Through (pic) The Legend of Zelda, The Wind Waker walkthrough, Part 1 is now complete (again, DaFuZzMaStA shows his gaming prowess)!  This walk through / FAQ goes through to the Forbidden Forest.  We're working on getting this guide completed, and we're nearly there!

Additionally, there is a Sea Map available, check it out (at the link above).  There is a partial walkthrough of the Forest Level, which has been put on hold for just a bit to get the Primal walk through worked on.

ANNOUNCEMENT 4:

Fatman Games has been active for 6 months.  The domains are www.stageselect.com, www.stageselect.org. Last month and this month ALONE, Fatman Games has had over 1 million "hits" (files transferred).  In that same period of time, the site has had over 24,000 unique visitors and transferred more than a 2 Gigabytes (not bits) of data.  Those numbers are OK.  However, it could be argued that only a few people drive a lot of those numbers.  GET THE WORD OUT.  Nice people are here.  Cool people are here.  COLLECTORS are here.

I have been tracking my "progress" in relation to other game sites - and I think that given how many game sites are out there, this one is doing OK.  But I measure the success of the site in terms of how it makes me feel to keep it up.  I measure success in terms of familiar faces on the boards, and what information is here.

Why is the success of the site important to me?  I developed Fatman Games for 2 1/2 months before I took it "live".  I took some time to do the numbers, to see how much the site is costing me in terms of money and time.  I have spent:

  • 500 Hours in programming the basis of the site.
  • 720 Hours on the site in day-to-day functions.  That's an average of 4 hours a day- I get up at 5:30, and go to bed at midnight to accommodate that.
  • $280 setting up the site for this year
  • $330 promoting and announcing the site
  • $455 for prizes / giveaways.

So, about a thousand dollars and 1200 hours.  Or, over 7 Game Cubes and 50 days solid with no sleep.  At this pace, in one year, I will have spent almost 1/3 of my total time (including sleep time and eating time) on this site.  I will have spent enough to buy a large screen HDTV, or enough to pay for 500 Value Meals, or enough for a 2 week vacation in Jamaica.

I have put in this much time and money because I like to share my love of games.  Additionally, the more I work on this site, the more I realize that I want to work on this site, and the more I realize that I wouldn't trade this site for the MONEY OR THE TIME.

In summary - it's a great (possibly the best) month for Uncle larsoncc to buy you a gift.  DaFuZzMaStA is turning out to be one heck of a guy.  We've got good progress on a Zelda Windwaker walkthrough.  We've got good progress on a Primal walkthrough.  And finally, it's been an INTENSE 1/2 year.  Thanks for participating and being a part of this community.
